Happy Father's Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, and uncles; your impact is immeasurable. Thank you for making a difference in all of our lives. May you feel celebrated every day and especially every weekend. Make your family time count.
I don't know how old I was when I started cooking breakfast with my mom on the weekend. I only know that my sister and I alternated who made pancakes and who made waffles. Because these are such happy memories for me I wanted to pass on the tradition in my family. And, we've now had three weekends in a row making breakfast together as a family in our kitchen.
For us, there are a few secrets to a meltdown free morning. First, we need to get a little food into everyone's stomachs before we start the main course. All three of us get irritable when we're hungry. Second, we simplify the ingredients so that Gates is able to easily pour them into a mixing bowl.
Pancake Mixes that Make Breakfast Effortless
Pancake mixes we've tried with Gates, ranked favorite first:
- Martha's Southern Pecan Pancake And Waffle Mix 14 Oz (Pack Of 6) (*affiliate link): flavorful, made twice the amount of silver dollar sized pancakes listed on the label, fluffy
- Shortstacks Pancake Mix, Bourbon Salted Pecan (*affiliate link): doesn't require eggs which is great with toddlers who want to taste what they're making; coconut milk drink is not a 1:1 substitution for rice milk or almond milk; first couple were lead, had to kept adding coconut milk drink to thin the batter
- Arrowhead Mills Organic Gluten Free Pancake & Baking Mix, 26 Ounce Bag (*affiliate link): makes an unremarkable pancake that cooks consistently; like most gluten free baked items it probably cooks better when dairy is used
