Self-Portrait Takes 2 Thru 7

Image
Well not exactly... Self-Portrait Take 2 and Self-Portrait Take 5 (copyright issue with a scanned image of a Monopoly Board) were thrown out. They didn't satisfy the requirements (image from digital camera, image from a flatbed scanner, film image scanned by an agency, text entered in Photoshop) of the class and they didn't excite me. We also had to have an artist who inspired our style of self-portrait. Which is your favorite? Take 1 (check it out here: http://theroadtothegoodlife.com/2007/07/self-portrait-take-1.html); Take 3 - At the beginning of the day, it's all about possibilities; Take 4 - On the Road to the Good Life; Take 6 - Those Knights in Their Shining Armor; or Take 7 - An Exciting Life is Yours if You Dare. Take 6 and Take 7 take inspiration in style from Andy Warhol's self-portrait. Please comment! I'm working on Take 8 - trying to force fit requirements into a self portrait that's more "traditional" in style.

The hardest part of a creative problem is getting started. This Self-Portrait doesn't satisfy the assignment requirements but it's a start. It got me thinking about what's important to me, what objects do I want to define me. As a start it fulfills one requirement - that I appear in my self-portrait. (The image of me I used was taken by Thomas.) But that's the only requirement it fulfills. It uses 3 different types of input methods - not 4. The 4 it uses are a digital camera image, an object I scanned, and text entered in Photoshop. It also doesn't include multiple items that are important to me. This Self-Portrait includes one item that is very important me - the motto I created from The Brand You exercise I did in preparation for writing my MBA entrance essays. It includes another item as well - a handmade greeting card from a former co-worker's partner. The handmade greeting card that I scanned and included is copyrighted by Kate Harper Designs. World Traveled Coffee Addict

Image
The next round of classes has begun! The first assignment in my Digital Imaging class has us combining different digital media for a Self-Portrait. Always looking for justification to try something new with Photoshop and to experiment, I decided to try my hand at digital mixed media a little early. We were asked to tell the class three things about ourselves. Here’s what I posted: Three things about me: 1. I am a traveler. 2. I am a gourmet. 3. I am a photographer. I figured I’d post an image that captures all three of these things - two of my photographs - one of my coffee maker and coffee grinder and one of a coffee plantation in Costa Rica and a scan of my current favorite coffee. The title of the composite image: World Traveled Coffee Addict In case you're curious how I created this image, general steps follow. Because I created the image from two digital photographs and a digital scan, the challenges I immediately faced were differences in resolution and image size. O...
