Monthly Snapshot: Gates at 16 Months

Image
16 months meant mobility. 16 months meant less time sitting in our laps being read to. 16 months meant seemingly never ending chases punctuated by brief pauses to change direction. 16 months meant savoring the time Gates did want to be with us.     Gates began taking tentative steps before 16 months. 16 months marked the moment Gates started walking with people other than mom (me) watching. And, no longer does Gates keep a hand free to steady herself, she now grabs two toys, one in both hands and off she goes. Each day she grows more independent. She can now rock herself in both her rocker and in an adult-sized rocking chair.     From my mom's notes: July 5th, 2013: "Wanted shoes on. Was trying to put toys on her feet! Played and walked "on-off" game with Shoes! Loves to walk holding fingers 2 handed -- fast. Will now try holding one handed walking!" ... "Walked and walked! Taking many steps by self at a time!" ... A Good Life Snapshot: Jennifer Hurlburt of Jennifer Witt Photography

Image
It's that time again! Time for another Good Life story. Today I have Jennifer Hurlburt with us, visiting from Minnesota where like here summer weather has been elusive. I met Jennifer through the Summer Bucket List Challenge and have been following her family's SBLC adventures since on her blog Jennifer Witt Photography . Jennifer is a wife and a mom to two boys and is expecting their third child. Today, Jennifer paused from their summer adventures to share a snapshot of her Good Life with us. My husband and my children are my first priorities and tending to those relationships come before all else. When I know I’m being the best wife and mother I ca...

Make: A Daily Twenty Minute Creativity Practice

Image
Most days twenty minutes to myself where I can just create is a luxury. Crafting prose to complement a series of photographs is a seemingly impossible task, one often accomplished over the course of a few stolen moments throughout the week. However, I still find time to create. Recently through the "viewfinder" of my iPhone and published via my Instagram feed.     I can't believe the summer's almost gone, and that there's only a week left in the Find Your Voice workshop . It seemed like just a few days ago, I was hosting my Girls Night In Thai Cooking Class and packaging it into an online Thai Flavors: Introduction class for Atly's launch at ALT SF. But flown it has. So I've snatched moments here and there to whet my appetite for making.   One of the best sessions I attended this past January at ALT Summit SLC was the Makers Gotta Make: Fine-Tuning Your Creative Process for Success roundtable co-lead by Sandra Harris from Raincoast Creative Salon and...

Make: Crafting a Story

Image
To chronicle my experience at Alt San Francisco earlier this month I decided to make a scrapbook. While crafting I discovered some key differences between a physical scrapbook and a digital scrapbook.     Do you change how you craft your story?
