The Scene Today: Rock Roses at SF Friends School

Image
Almost every morning and evening I walk by the San Francisco Friends School . In the morning the sidewalk is filled with kids; I walk by on the opposite side of the street not wanting to interrupt the myriad of greetings and goodbyes occurring. The grounds of the San Francisco Friends School are beautifully manicured, yet I seldom get a chance to stop and admire them up close. Last night in the golden hour I looked at the landscaping and took some photos.     When I'm photographing flowers I look for contrasts. I look for repetition of shape. I also look for the out of the ordinary (a future The Scene Today post). cubes and I went through the flowers I shot and narrowed the Rock Roses down to two (we both have different favorites).     Which composition do you prefer? Why?   Ciao Bella! Eden!   P.S. Don't feel like commenting? Strike up a conversation with me elsewhere: Twitter , Instagram , Facebook , or Pinterest .   Credits: All images tak...

Bedside Reading: Introducing Children to Wayne Thiebaud

Image
One of my favorite artists is Wayne Thiebaud, an artist most recognized for his depiction of cakes, pies, gumball machines, and more. I was excited to find two books with his art and about his legacy written for toddlers and young adults.     This weekend I read Delicious: The Art and Life of Wayne Thiebaud by Susan Goldman Rubin ( *affiliate link ) and discovered he also painted cityscapes and landscapes.     Another book by Susan Goldman Rubin, Counting with Wayne Thiebaud ( *affiliate link ), introduces toddlers to counting and some of Theibaud's most famous paintings.   Are you introducing your kids to art? Got any favorite books?   Ciao Bella! Eden!   P.S. Don't feel like commenting? Moments: Food as Art in Photography and in Paintings

Image
I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I came down with a nasty head cold on Friday so no The Scene Today or Found shot. Instead, I used my time in bed to catch up on my reading and indulge myself with Coconut Bliss Naked Almond Fudge, Rice Milk Whipped Topping, and Grain-Sweetened Chocolate Chips (100% allergy free goodness!).     Three of the books I read were Decorate ( *affiliate link ; pictured above beneath my dessert), Delicious: The Life & Art of Wayne Thiebaud ( *affiliate link ), and Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography & Styling ( *affiliate link ).     I also sorted through over four months of catalogs and magazines that I'd filed away. I tore out styling and products that caught my eye and, inspired by Decorate, I even created a few mood boards for our bedroom. (I'll share where we are with decorating our bedroom and what we're still lacking later this week.)   How about you, read anything interesting lately?   Ciao Bella...
