I love clothing swaps, especially ones where I'm "raiding" my friends' closets. For me, a clothing swap isn't just about acquiring more stuff. It's also an opportunity to get to know my friends better (stories range from who gave someone a dress, where the item was originally scored, to what event(s) the item was worn to).
 
I can't wait for the next girls' night/clothing swap. I have two entire crates of vintage clothes that I didn't have time to go through before last night's swap.
 

Tips for a organizing a clothing swap

  • Collect shopping bags so that girls can stash their scores and transport them home.
  • Save hangers from the dry cleaners so that girls can display clothing.
  • Clear off flat spaces so that accessories can be easily displayed.
  • Close curtains or blinds before girls arrive.
  • Prop a full length mirror (or two) against a wall.
  • Offer a signature cocktail or other beverage to start to give girls the opportunity to meet each other and to catch up.

 

Tips for a attending a clothing swap

  • Bring clean (freshly laundered) items with lots of wear left.
  • If you don't think you have anything to swap, take a quick look at accessories (purses, hats, gloves, and scarves), jewelry, or shoes. You may find items you have forgotten.
  • Think of who is attending when making selections.
  • Go with an idea of what your closet needs and start there during the swap.

 
Last night's clothing swap was perfectly timed. Since the pregnancy I have a different body type, leaving my cocktail dresses and evening gowns distant memories. This left me with a dilemma of what to wear to a wedding this weekend. Clothing swap to the rescue! I now have a lovely fitted floor length gown. (I also picked up a fun sun dress, a dress for work, a couple of skirts, a few casual tops, and a scarf.)
